There are lots of different types of surfboards from which to choose. The board needs to be a perfect match to the surfer so they will get the most out of the experience. One of the first considerations will be the level of surfer. A beginner will want to get a surfboard which is long and thick. This will reduce the effort needed in order to catch a good wave when first starting out.
More experienced surfers can afford to do a lot of experimenting with different types of boards. The newest type of board is a stand-up paddle board and it is well worth the look. Their preferences can range anywhere
from a 10’6 long board down to a 5’4 fish surfboard. Basically, surfers will need to find the board that works the best for them.
The Short Board runs anywhere from 5 to 7 feet long. They have a nose rocker to help keep the front of the board up out of the water while surfing. They also have two fins that aid in maneuverability. These are usually used by more experienced surfers.
The Big Wave Board is from 8 to 9 feet in length. The nose and tail are designed narrow to help the surfer retain their speed. These features also help navigate while surfing.
The Fish Surfboard is somewhat wider and thicker than other boards. Its design makes it easy to catch a wave, but it is not as easy to navigate short quick moves like other boards.
The Fun Board is somewhere between 7′ to 8’2 in length. It is easier to make quicker turns with than the short board.
