History Of Rusty Surfboards


Rusty Surfboards is a name that has been synoynomous with surfing for a very long time. The history of Rusty Surfboards is one that was ingrained on the beaches of beautfiul Southern California by an adventerous young man that loved the sport of surfing and had a vision that would take the surfing world by storm.

Rusty Preisendorfer is the name sake and founder of Rusty Surfboards and came into the world in 1953 where he would live the first 12 years of his life in San Diego. It was in 1966 that Rusty moved La Jolla and would discover and fall in love with surfing. It would be three years later that he would shape his first surfboard.

The 1970′s would see Rusty attend the University of California at San Diego and then drop out to focus on shaping surfboards and competing all throughout Southern California in surfing contests. He would be sponsored by G&S and would also shape boards for them. It was then that Rusty’s surfboard designs were getting noticed by the surfing world. Rusty would go on throughout the rest of the decade and the early part of the 1980′s designing boards for numerous surfboard companies.

It wasn’t until the mid 1980′s that Rusty Preisendorfer decided to branch out on his own thus giving the surfing world the patented Rusty Surfboards that are so popular to this very day. The years have seen Rusty become an innovator in new designs of surfboards and also ventured into clothing and other water surfing vices. The history of Rusty Surfboards began with the trials and tribulations of the one and only Rusty Preisendorfer.
